Yoga of the Heart
When I want to reconnect
With the infinite wonder of the universe
And remember
That I'm an integral part
Of that infinite wonder,
I often just relax and think
About the infinite wonder of my heart
And the way it pumps nourishment
From the air we breathe
Throughout our wondrous bodies.
How can anyone doubt
That body and spirit and universe
Are one
When we can feel
The awesome unfathomableness
Of the heart
In all its physical and spiritual wonder
Embracing, dancing with the breath
Every moment of our lives?

jshome1@msn.com, 2 years ago | FlagBob, your poem about the wonders of the heart is beautiful and wise. I am currently reading a book about anxiety which draws on scientific
research indicating that the heart has far more to do with anxiety and stress than may have been realized. Whereas traditiona l therapy to this point has focused on cognitive centers, newer research indicates that the heart center is where it's at when we want to identify, neutralize and transform negative emotions which underlie stress. As I am reading about a breathing technique in which a therapist has his client breathe into the heart with an authentic intention to relax, and breathe out through the feet, with an authentic intention to feel grounded - I realize, yoga is everywhere . These scientists have discovered the wonders of the chakras and energy body. "The physical and spiritual wonder" of the heart is awesome. -
reweis, 2 years ago | FlagSeveral days after writing my blog above, I was astounded to happen upon this verse in the Yoga Sutra:
"Focusing with perfect discipline on the heart, one understands the nature of consciousness" (3:35)It's like we're jumping across the span of 2500 years to share our experiences with Patanjali.

It's a poem about Brahman, the awesome unfathomab
le life-force of the universe-- according to the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita, present in all things, from you and me to the farthest galaxies to that rock over there, but most easily evident in things that are infinitely amazing on the surface, like a beating heart. Bob
