living an awakened life...

Temple

“Smile with the flower and the green grass. Play with the butterflies, birds, and deer. Shake hands with the shrubs, ferns, and twigs of trees. Talk to the rainbow, wind, stars, and the sun. Converse with the running brooks and the waves of the sea. Speak with the walking-stick. Develop friendship with all your neighbors, dogs, cats, cows, human beings, trees, flowers, etc. Then you will have a wide, perfect, rich, full life. You will realize oneness or unity of life. This can be hardly described in words. You will have to feel this yourself.”

—Swami Sivananda

After the Revolution
The daily practices for living an awakened life...

In body and soul, you've changed. Whoever  you were at the beginning of these forty days no longer exists; you are a different person.  So it makes sense that  you would now want to operate from your new state of mind and health in every moment of your life.

The practice of preparation
For many of us there will be times when it is hard to keep to the path and stay true to an ongoing revolution. There will be difficult moments, because that is how life flows. It helps if we can make peace with this truth and accept it, because then we can be more prepared and hold on to our center during tough times.
Having a good set of habits and sticking to them gives us a foundation in our lives. Make it a practice to give time to activities that feed your mind, body and soul each day. Sticking to your good habits is like keeping a savings account: When challenging times come, you'll have enough accumulated spiritual resources to see you through.

The Daily Practices;
THE PRACTICE OF COMPASSION

compassion

compassion, originally uploaded by sketchbookbuttons.

Be at peace with your own soul,
Then heaven and earth will be at peace with you.

Enter eagerly into the treasure
house that is within you,

And you will see the things that are in heaven;
For there is but one single entry to them both.

The ladder that leads to the Kingdom in hidden within your soul...

Dive into yourself and
in your soul you will discover
The stairs by which to ascend.

THE PRACTICE OF BEING SPONTANEOUS

All the Hemispheres

RUSSIA/, originally uploaded by Wilder Wein.

Leave the familiar for a while.

Let your senses and bodies stretch out

Like a welcomed season

Onto the meadow and shores and hills.

Open up to the Roof.

Make a new watermark on your excitement

And love.

Like a blooming night flower,

Bestow your vital fragrance of happiness

And giving

Upon our intimate assembly.

Change rooms in your mind for a day.

All the hemispheres in existence

Lie beside an equator

In your heart.

Greet Yourself

In your thousand other forms

As you mount the hidden tide and travel

Back home.

All the hemispheres in heaven

Are sitting around a fire

Chatting

While stitching themselves together

Into the Great Circle inside of

You.

THE PRACTICE OF INTIMACY

Embrace

Embrace, originally uploaded by The Green Album.

Like Passionate Lips

There are

So many positions of

Love:

Each curve on a branch,

the thousand different ways

Your eyes can embrace us,

The infinite shapes your

Mind can draw,

The spring

Orchestra of scents,

The currents of light combusting

Like passionate lips,

The revolution of Existence's skirt

Whose folds contain other worlds,

Your every sign that falls against

His inconceivable

Omnipresent

Body.

THE PRACTICE OF BEING NONREACTIVE

Letting Go

Letting Go, originally uploaded by Amiruddin Thaksin.

Even after all these years

the sun doesn't say

"You owe me".

Look what happens!

The whole world lights up.

Hafiz

THE PRACTICE OF BEING HONEST WITH YOURSELF

Truth

4.2, originally uploaded by vanessa.paxton.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language. Even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.

Rumi

Honesty

THE PRACTICE OF EQUANIMITY

Love, Peace, Equanimity

Love, Peace, Equanimity, originally uploaded by Ilana Nachoum.

I am not I.
I am this one
Walking beside me whom I do not see,
Whom at times I manage to visit,
And at other times I forget.
The one who remains silent when I talk,
The one who forgives, sweet, when I hate,
The one who takes a walk when I am indoors,
The one who will remain standing when I die.

Juana Ramon Jimenez, “I AM NOT I”
translated by Robert Bly

THE PRACTICE OF NOT RESISTING CHANGE

“Of Death”

Age..., originally uploaded by Dilip Muralidaran.

And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its rest-
less tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink form the river of silence
shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top,
then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs,
then shall you truly dance.

Kahill Gibran, from “Of Death”, The Prophet

THE PRACTICE OF RELATIONSHIPS

The Subject Tonight is Love

Lovers, originally uploaded by Orioto.

The subject tonight is Love

And for tomorrow night as well,

As a matter of fact

I know of no better topic

For us to discuss

Until we all

Die!

THE PRACTICE OF SLOWING DOWN

Enough

Slow Down, originally uploaded by Artiii.

Enough. These few words are enough.
If not these words, this breath.
If not this breath, this sitting here.
This opening to the life
we have refused
again and again
until now.
Until now

THE PRACTICE OF FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness

Ring the bells that can still ring,
Forget your perfect offering,
There is a crack in everything,
That's how the light gets in.

THE PRACTICE OF COMING CLEAN ( Not keeping secrets)

Just Breathe

Sun Salutation, originally uploaded by NamWizard.

Yes I understand that every life must end, aw huh
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go, aw huh
I’m a lucky man to count on both hands
The ones I love
Some folks just have one,
Others they got none, aw huh
Stay with me
Let’s just breathe.
Practiced are my sins,
Never gonna let me win, aw huh
Under everything, just another human being, aw huh
Yeh, I don’t wanna hurt, there’s so much in this world
To make me bleed.
Stay with me
You’re all I see.
Did I say that I need you?
Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn’t now I’m a fool you see
No one knows this more than me
As I come clean
I wonder everyday
as I look upon your face, aw huh
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take, aw huh
Nothing you would take
Everything you gave
Did I say that I need you?
Oh, Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn’t now I’m a fool you see
No one know this more than me.
As I come clean
Nothing you would take everything you gave.
Hold me till I die
Meet you on the other side

  • dhana,

I just use what free time I have. It does take up a good amount of my time... but I think it is worth it.

  • Most amazing post, as usual. I would love to know where you find the time to get all these posts with pictures and poems organized. Finding it most difficult to find the balance.
